Are the PS5 and Xbox Series X too buggy at launch? It’s the Eurogamer next-gen news cast!

The PlayStation 5 is now out in the UK! After a week of watching our American cousins enjoy their new next-gen consoles, Sony’s machine finally launched on our shores this week, and of course it didn’t go quite according to plan. After a remarkable row between GAME and Yodel that saw the delivery company trending on Twitter as anxious customers wondered whether their PS5s would actually turn up on launch day, Currys ended up calling off its PS5 launch after accidentally selling consoles early. Clearly, our shops have struggled to cope with demand during the lockdown, although according to Emma’s on-the-ground reporting of the click-and-collect sale of the PS5 at our local GAME, excited fans were at least socially distancing.

But have Microsoft and Sony also struggled to get their new consoles into shape in time for launch? PS5 users have reported a raft of worrying issues with the console, including crashes, Rest Mode concerns, and the frustrating “queued for download” bug that forces people who encounter it to factory reset. Then there’s the issue of some PS5 owners accidentally playing the PlayStation 4 version of their games. It’s not plain sailing on Xbox Series X and S, either – it turns out the quick resume feature doesn’t quite work all of the time.

There’s loads to talk about once again. So why not join Eurogamer news editor Tom Phillips, reporter Emma Kent and myself to discuss all of the above and more? It’s time for another Eurogamer next-gen news cast!
